It’s January 6, which means it’s Sunshine Saturday, the day of the year that’s considered to be the most popular time to book a holiday.

We recently learned how the festive period and general grimness of winter can leave us longing for warmth and  desperate to book a trip to somewhere sunny as soon as possible.

And if you’re feeling the urge to nab yourself a fabulous holiday deal, then you’re in luck as there are a number of travel offers and sales throughout January, including to several bucket list destinations.

Travel experts have also shared their advice for the best times to go to certain destinations, to ensure you’re getting the cheapest flights out there.

Laura Lindsay, Skyscanner’s Travel Expert told Metro.co.uk: ‘We’re seeing holiday demand is high going into 2024, with searches by UK travellers over the Christmas break and into the first week of January already exceeding last year’s level by almost a quarter.

‘This early wave of interest shows that travellers are eager to start planning that all important next trip. As for where they’re headed, the current top searched cities include a mixture of long to medium and short haul destinations with trips to New York, Dubai, and Bangkok high on the agenda.

‘For many travellers, the holiday search starts early and they want to be able to easily explore and compare prices and options. There are great deals at this time of year for those who know how to shop around.’

If you don’t have anywhere specific in mind for your next trip, but know you want it to be cheap, then Skyscanner has the perfect tool to help with this.

Their Cheapest Month search option makes it easy to find the absolute cheapest month of the year to visit any destination in the world when searching for ‘flexible dates’ and the cheapest price broken down per month.

For those wondering, January is thought to be the cheapest month to fly to Tenerife or New York, with prices starting from £33 for a return for the former, and £337 return for the latter. While February is the cheapest month to fly to Barcelona, with prices starting from £25 return.

Those wanting to go to Dubai are urged to fly in March, when Skyscanner says prices start from £435 return, while September is thought to be the cheapest month to fly to Bangkok. Currently prices to fly in September start from £659 return. ( Flight prices economy, return from UK airports, correct at time of sharing. Cheaper flights with +1 stop also available.)

And if you’re booking cheap flights such as these and need somewhere to stay, you might want to sign up to Hotels.com. That’s because members of the site can currently get 25% off selected hotels thanks to their New Year’s deals.

Member Prices will help you save 25% or more on your hotel, but to take advantage of the deals, you’ll need to book by January 31, 2024.
