Holiday lets and beauty salon plans passed for Sutterton and Wigtoft

Holidaymakers are set to have even more choice in the area after plans for two separate vacation lets have been passed.

Sutterton’s Thatched Cottage restaurant has been given the thumbs up to install two holiday cabins and a beauty salon on caravan site land at its rear.

Meanwhile, Boston Borough Council have also approved plans to convert a barn into a holiday let in Wigtoft.

Converting land between Spalding and Boston appears to be proving a popular move, with a request to site caravans on land owned by the Barn Dried Logs business in Algarkirk also recently getting the green light.

The Thatched Cottage plans include the creation of a new gravel–surfaced track for access to the cabins which will be situated around a pond at the rear of the venue.

“The cabins will each measure 7.5m x 7.0m in plan and stand 3.33m above ground-level, and they are proposed to have walls in brown-coloured timber/composite cladding, metal roofs and fascias, and grey windows and doors,” the planning officer statement read.

“Two of the cabins will provide holiday accommodation (each comprising of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an open-plan lounge/dining room/kitchen) and one will be used as a beauty salon (with opening hours of 8am to 9pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm Saturdays, and 10am to 4pm Sundays and Bank Holidays).

“Each of the cabins will have a patio area that will be 50cm above ground-level. A new brick wall (standing 1.5m-high above ground-level) is proposed to be erected around the pond’s eastern and northern boundary.”

Although the beauty salon sits 30m outside of Sutterton’s settlement boundary, planners agreed it was within ‘reasonable proximity to other village services’ such as the health centre, fish and chip shop and restaurant.

Applicant S. Craven was successful in his bid to be able to transform the site of a barn on Asperton Road, Wigtoft – which has been used for storage for a number of years – into a two-bed holiday let.

“It is proposed to demolish the timber barn and change the use of (and extend) the brick and pantile barn to create holiday accommodation comprising a lobby, lounge, kitchen/dining room, bathroom, and two bedrooms (one with ensuite shower and toilet),” the planning officer statement said.

“Vehicular access will come from Asperton Road (via a shared drive) and the curtilage will include sufficient space to permit the parking of at least two cars.”
