MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The IUPUI women’s basketball team will kick off a two-game road trip to end the year when they travel to Robert Morris on Friday, December 29. The game will tip off on ESPN+ at 7:00 PM.
The IUPUI women’s basketball team fell to the South Florida Bulls during the West Palm Beach Classic on Wednesday, December 20, 85-49. Katie Davidson once again led the Jaguars’ offense with 19 points. Jazmyn Turner totaled eight rebounds.
Katie Davidson made her IUPUI debut in a loud way and continues to lead the Jags. The junior transfer from Miami (Ohio) sat out last season for personal reasons but made her presence known with career-high 32 points and seven rebounds in the season opener against Eastern Illinois. Davidson has been a consistent starter for the Jags and leads the team in scoring with 18.2 points per game, ranking her at third in the Horizon League.
Since Jazmyn Turner’s injury, Abby Wolterman entered the starting five and has stepped up for the Jags. The sophomore recorded a career-high 16 points in the Jaguar’s loss at Ohio and has lead the team in rebounds per game with an average of 5.3.
IUPUI has continued to fight injury to start the 2023-24 season with at least six different players sitting out at least two games for injury or other reasons. The Jags were without #HLWBB Preseason All-League First Team Selection Jazmyn Turner for seven games as she suffered an injury in the first quarter of the Ohio State game. Turner recorded a double-double in the opening game of the season with 19 points and 17 rebounds. She made her return to the court against Eastern Michigan when she came off the bench to total eight points and four rebounds. Tahlia Walton, a grad transfer from Kentucky Wesleyan, senior Jaci Jones, and freshman Azyah Newson-Cole, Kaylin Moorehead and Brooklyn Stubblefield have also found themselves on the bench for at least two games.
Coach Bruce’s squad is looking to hunt their way through the Horizon League standings this season as they were picked to finish ninth of 11 teams in the conference, according to the league’s coaches. IUPUI finished third in the regular season standings during the 2022-23 season with a 13-7 record and entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed. They were shocked in the quarterfinal round by the No. 6 seed Purdue Fort Wayne. The Jags have fallen 0-2 in #HLWBB play to start the 2023-24 season.
The Jags currently hold an all-time 7-1 record over the Colonials with the Jaguars taking the last matchup 83-69 on Feb. 23.
The game will be on ESPN+ with tipoff set for 7:00 PM.
