Mackinac’s historic Island House Hotel unveils 2024 vacation packages

by Staff

MACKINAC ISLAND, MI – Island House Hotel, an historic spot which has one of the prettiest waterfront views on Mackinac Island, has rolled out its array of special packages for the 2024 season. And there’s a lot of fun and summer celebrations packed into this buffet of getaway ideas.

Packages range from its kick-off Derby Days celebration that centers around big hats, posh attire, julep-sipping and all things Kentucky Derby, to vacation deals tied to holidays like Memorial Day, Mother’s Day, the Fourth of July – and the island’s iconic Lilac Festival.

Island House, which is Mackinac’s oldest hotel, sits directly across from the marina. The sprawling hotel is not only a state landmark, it’s the only hotel located within the boundaries of Mackinac Island State Park and is actually owned by the state.

The diligent stewards of this piece of Mackinac history are the Callewaert family – now in their fourth generation of island hospitality. Mackinac destinations also under the family umbrella include: Ryba’s Fudge Shops, Pancake House, Pine Cottage, Seabiscuit Café, Mary’s Draught House and the 1852 Grill Room.

“We’re gearing up for another amazing season! The excitement is building,” said Todd Callewaert, president of Island House Hotel. “From deep cleaning the guest rooms to adding some tasty surprises to the 1852 Grill Room menu, we’re busy making sure the hotel is in tip-top shape for opening day.

“Our staff puts their whole heart into every detail to give our guests a memorable experience. Their dedication is what makes staying here truly special.”

For more than 50 years, the generations of the Callewaert family have been the caretakers of this resort-style hotel. (See the Island House history video below). They are the ones who have worked diligently to bring it back from a shell of a hotel in the early 1970s to the award-winning gem it is today. In addition to the property renovations, Island House’s dining options have continued to expand. It’s known for its 1852 Grill Room and now draws summer visitors to its outdoor spaces, too.

The Ice House restaurant area was added in 1995. It happened about the same time the hotel’s new pool went in and was capped by three up-top hotel suites boasting great island views.
