Over half of Brits (51%) say they have never been on holiday – with their grandparents, a study has found.

The survey of 2,000 adults found that almost a quarter (23%) feel that taking a trip with the older generation would help to bring the family closer together – with 5% hoping to bring their grandma or grandpa on an upcoming vacation.

And 57% regret not spending more time with their grandparents, while 73% would love the opportunity to ask them more about their lives.

But despite 49% saying they would be keen to learn more from their grandparents’ wisdom, as many as 27% admit they speak to their parents’ parents – less than once a week.

However, 77% consider the bond between grandparents and their grandkids as one of the most special to have in the family. And, as such, almost three-quarters of the parents polled (73%) encourage their own children to have a closer relationship with their granny or grandad.

The research was commissioned by easyJet Holidays, which is offering free trips to grandparents, when booked as part of a family trip.

The package holiday company launched the “Grans Go Free” initiative after seeing a rise in holidaymakers bringing their grannies and grandads along on their travels last year. It applies to several European destinations, including Greece, Spain, and Italy.

Matt Callaghan, chief operating officer from easyJet Holidays, which commissioned the research, said: “We’re proud to offer thousands of free kids places, but we feel it’s time to recognise the grandparents.
