Whether you want to stay at a romantic inn, a historic bed & breakfast, or a traditional hotel, Washington has many options. One of the newest lodgings, The Little Inn on Main, is a lovely ten room boutique inn that sits in the heart of downtown. Manager Mary Anna Radcliffe says that all the rooms are vintage style and have king-sized beds, full baths, and mini kitchenettes. “The Little Inn on Main has partnered with other businesses in town such as The Bank Bistro, The Hackney, and Wine & Words & Gourmet to have wine, meals, or charcuterie boards in guests’ rooms. We also work with Sun, Moon, and Bloom, (a new florist in town), so guests can have fresh flowers in their rooms.” Radcliffe says they just had a couple get engaged there. They also offer golf cart rentals to scoot around downtown, and there is a coffee & gift shop (The Main Cup) in the downstairs lobby.  “We love hosting couples. We are steps away from the beautiful waterfront, and there is plenty to do downtown.”

Wine & Words & Gourmet is a wine and gourmet food shop that has a wine bar next door. They offer wines from around the world, gift baskets, and other specialties to make your getaway the perfect rendezvous. Sommelier Shari Dean says they have everything to take your mini couples vacation to the next level. “We offer wine, beer, charcuterie including cheeses, crackers, salamis, all kinds of goodies. And the wine bar next door is the coziest place to enjoy a glass of wine or a beer. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy some good music.” Wine & Words has live music on certain nights and is decorated with a turn-of-the century antique style that is sure to engage your sense of romance.

The Bank Bistro, housed in the historic Bank of Washington building, is a go-to for a date night dinner or cocktail. Erected in 1854, it is a stuccoed brick temple-form building in the Greek Revival style. Owner Joan Cannon Meyland says it’s a charming spot for couples to enjoy. “We are nestled amidst picture-perfect surroundings and beautiful sunsets. Our historic building boasts exquisite architecture and a cozy atmosphere that will surely kindle romance.”

Meyland adds that you don’t want to miss the special dinner menu featuring delectable dishes and creative cocktails. You can also sit at the bar that was once a bank vault.

Washington, with its stunning views of the Pamlico River, ornate historical architecture, luxurious but comfortable lodgings, and fabulous cuisine, is the perfect backdrop for anniversaries, Valentines Day, birthday celebrations, or just that romantic getaway you’ve been wanting ‘just because.’

Start planning your magical adventure in Washington today for memories that will last forever.
