Syracuse Wraps Up Road Trip At NC State Tuesday Night

Syracuse (16-10, 7-8 ACC) stays on the road for the second game of the home-and-home series with NC State (16-9, 8-6) on Tuesday, February 20. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. in the PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.
The Orange have split their last four games. Syracuse aims to secure a regular-season sweep of the Wolfpack.
NC State came up with a significant victory on the road last Saturday, defeating Clemson on the road, 78-77..
Tuesday will be the 20th meeting on the hardwood between the two squads. The Orange have a 13-6 advantage in the all-time series with the Wolfpack. Syracuse has taken the last six meetings with NC State. The Orange emerged with triumph in the most recent pairing, 77-65, on January 27 in the JMA Wireless Dome. The last time the Wolfpack came out on top was on Feb. 11, 2020, when NC State outlasted Syracuse, 79-74.
The sophomore backcourt duo of J.J. Starling (18 points) and Judah Mintz (14) combined for 32 of Syracuse’s 60 points at Georgia Tech. Sophomore center Maliq Brown tied his career-high with five steals. He also contributed six points, two assists and a team-best eight rebounds. Swingman Quadir Copeland, a sophomore, produced nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals coming off the bench.
The Orange have four performers averaging double-digits scoring in ACC contests this season: Mintz (16.2 ppg.), Starling (15.2), sophomore forward Chris Bell (10.6) and Brown (10.3). Copeland is just off the double-figure mark with 9.9 points per ACC affair. Mintz dishes out 4.5 assists per game, which ranks fourth in the conference. Brown leads the squad in rebound average with 6.8 boards per affair and has averaged 7.8 rebounds in ACC games this season.
Mintz stands at fifth in the conference in scoring average with 18.3 points per game this season. He ranks inside the top 10 in Division I for free throws attempted (sixth, 223) and made (ninth, 168).
Syracuse is first in the ACC in steals per game with 9.5. Brown (2.16) and Mintz (2.12) rank first and third, respectively, among league performers in steals.
Graduate guard DJ Horne leads the team with 17.2 points per affair and sits at seventh in the ACC in scoring average. Horne is ranked fourth in the conference for 3-pointers per outing with 3.0. Three other performers score in double-figures for NC State: graduate forward DJ Burns Jr. (11.9 ppg.), graduate guard Casey Morsell (11.8) and junior guard Jayden Taylor (11.3).

NC State ranks atop the ACC with 14.0 fastbreak points per game. The Wolfpack is third in the conference in steals per game with 7.9.



Syracuse University Athletics will be honoring legendary SU basketball coach and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame member Jim Boeheim ’66 when the Orange host Notre Dame on Saturday, February 24, in the JMA Wireless Dome. The ceremony will recognize the numerous accomplishments of the recently retired coach as part of “Coach Jim Boeheim Day.”
