If you’re traveling the Northside of town this weekend where Vance Jackson Road or Lockhill Selma intersect with Loop 1604, there’s going to be some major shakeups as the Texas Department of Transportation warns of lane closures tied the massive overhaul of the major San Antonio highway.

The bridge where Vance Jackson Road meets Loop 1604 will be under construction starting Friday, January 5 at 9 p.m. running through Monday, January 8, leaving traffic rerouted around eh major intersection all weekend long.

According to a closure alert sent out by the Texas Department of Transportation, westbound traffic on Loop 1604 headed to Vance Jackson Road looking to go south will have to hop on the Loop 1604 access road and take the turn around at the I-10 interchange to hop on Vance Jackson Road. Further, any traffic headed south on Vance Jackson Road before the Loop 1604 will have to follow the same route as the bridge connecting Vance Jackson across Loop 1604 will be closed for construction.

Those looking to head north on Vance Jackson Road from the eastbound lanes of Loop 1604, or to continue north on Vance Jackson Road from south of Loop 1604, will also have to hop on the highway frontage road, taking a turnaround at Lockhill Selma Road to turn onto Vance Jackson.

It’s not just traffic looking to hop on or off Vance Jackson Road that’s impacted, however, as far right, westbound lane of Loop 1604 from Lockhill Selma Road to the I-10 intersection will be closed. As a result, the on ramp for westbound Loop 1604 traffic at Lockhill Selma Road will be closed all weekend long, leaving drivers on the access road past the I-10 interchange before they can hop onto Loop 1604.

These weekend closures are part of a $1.4 billion TxDOT overhaul of Loop 1604, expanding the highway to 10 lanes and adding several flyover direct connections at the intersection of Loop 1604 and I-10. While it’s a bit of a traffic nightmare at the moment, crews are making steady progress on the project which is slated to reduce congestion by nearly 80 percent.
