Travel guru Nadia El Ferdaoussi is sharing her top picks for sunshine holidays this year. As winter gives way to spring, it’s time to start planning our summer jaunts abroad.

Big favourites on the holiday hit parade for us Irish are places in Spain’s Costa del Sol and Portugal’s Algarve. But Nadia’s picked out two spots you might not have thought of straight off.

After a visit to the Madeira island last year, she reckons it’ll be a big draw for tourists soon. Speaking to RSVP Live, she said: “Last year I went to Madeira in Portugal, which is very much an up and coming place which I don’t really feel that many people go to from Ireland.”

Explaining more about its charm, she added that it’s like a Portuguese Canary Islands, noting it’s an Atlantic volcanic island. For anyone keen to visit, she mentioned that Ryanair have direct flights in the summertime.

Another spot on Nadia’s radar is Ksamil, a village found in Albania. It has been likened to the “Maldives of Europe”.

Chipping in with travel trends, Nadia revealed: “People are now looking a bit more towards eastern Europe and at Albania, and Ksamil is marketed as the Maldives in Europe. They have beaches, beach clubs and cocktail bars.”
