BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Rounding out the non-conference portion of its dual schedule, UNI tennis secured a split of its two duals in a road trip through Minnesota this weekend, scoring a 6-1 win at Gustavus Adolphus before falling at St. Thomas, 5-2.

On Saturday in St. Peters, the Panthers began their dual with Gustavus Adolphus by sweeping all three doubles matches, including a 6-3 win for Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso. Andrijana Brkic and Kim Zizek narrowly edged Kaya De Bruijn and Bethany Smith in a 7-5 doubles win, while Issa Sullivan and Lasya Mylavarapu rolled to a 6-1 victory over Pavla Yakimova and Brooke Haddorff.

In singles, Northern Iowa won five of six matches, including four in straight sets. Brkic opened with a 6-2, 6-0 sweep of Szalay, with Dalecka defeating Molly Austin, 6-4-, 6-1. Cardoso would drop her second set to Alli Laux, but rallied in the third set to take the win (6-1, 2-6, 7-6). Sullivan scored a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Ella De Young, as Mylavarapu posted consecutive 6-1 sets to sweep Yakimova.

St. Thomas would present a challenge to UNI right off the bat in doubles with the Tommies securing the team point with wins in the number one and three matches. Doubles match number two was left unfinished.

Brkic and Dalecka would pick up Northern Iowa’s lone team points of the day in singles, with Brkic defeating Marthe Degeorges in straight sets (6-3, 6-2), and Dalecka doing the same against Jannah EINemer (6-2, 6-3). Zizek would take the first set from Olivia Paradise in the fourth singles match, but came up short in a 4-6, 6-0, 10-5 loss.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, March 23 as they visit the Missouri State Bears at 11 a.m. CT in Springfield to open Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) dual competition.
