Home Road Trip What to know ahead of time

What to know ahead of time

by Staff

HOUSTON – San Antonio isn’t just a fun road trip from Houston, it is a great place for a family getaway.

Dee Dee Potedee from Visit San Antonio popped by Studio B to share tips on the best things to do next time you are in San Antonio.

“Every time I come here with a short hop, it is to get from Houston to San Antonio,” Potedee said of the drive, which is around three hours, depending where in Houston you are leaving from.

This summer, San Antonio is definitely worth a visit because, as Potedee said, “There’s so much new to see and do” — from the food to the family fun and adventures.

The history of San Antonio is on display everywhere, from the Alamo to world class museums, including the new Ralston Family Collections Center, which houses the Phil Collins Collection. An avid fan of Texana and Americana history, the British musician gifted the state of Texas priceless artifacts that are now on display at the Rolston, including the Battle of the Alamo diorama that he narrated.

When it comes to future plans for the Alamo, $500 million is being invested into not only reestablishing original boundaries, but to tell the whole story.

Beyond the museums, kids will enjoy fun at SeaWorld, they can explore the caves at Natural Bridge Caverns and visit the meerkats at the San Antonio Zoo.

And, of course, visitors cannot miss out on the food, which is what many people travel to San Antonio for.

Potedee recommended a visit to Carriqui to enjoy delicious South Texas cuisine. Named after the green jay bird, the Carriqui’s flight path — from the Rio Grande Valley to the Texas coast and north of San Antonio — has inspired the menu. The restaurant is in an historic building that dates back to the early days of the Pearl Brewery.
