“I usually overpack for every car trip,” a travel-expert YouTuber with over 261,000 subscribers, Laurie (@TravelTipsbyLaurie) said in a video.

“I’ve learned from my mistakes. So, on my recent road trip, I learned from some things that I forgot to pack.”

Laurie said she forgot to pack bungee cords on her previous trip.

However, she said she grabbed some at her destination’s Target for just $15.

Bungee cords can be used for several space-saving road emergencies.

The cords are typically used to secure items to roof racks or bike racks added to a car.

They can come in handy if travelers purchase items during the trip that don’t fit inside their car.

Drivers have also used cords for trunk organization by strapping items to fixed objects to stop them from rolling.

“You may have some around the house,” Laurie advised.

“But make sure they’re in the car this time.”

MORE CLEANING HACKS

Laurie also offered several cleaning hacks for drivers taking on long trips.

She said she snagged a travel tip from another expert.

“They used the little silicone cupcake wrappers to protect their cupholders from crumbs,” she said.

She also suggested keeping hard plastic gum containers for hair tie holders.

Laurie said whoever is driving may want to bring a hat on the trip.

“By the end of my road trip, I am ready for a hat,” she said.

“Especially if you’re the driver and want some extra shade, if you’re trying to take a nap, or because of rain.”

Here are some other items she said drivers must keep in their cars:

  • Extra phone chargers for each traveler
  • Hiking shoes
  • Travel cups for coffee
  • Tissues for the car
  • Snacks inside gallon bags
  • Cash and coins for older parking meters
