Hotel Lamoille brings vacation options to rural Elko County

LAMOILLE — Just across from the forestry landscape layout of Lamoille Grove and next door to The Pine Lodge dinner restaurant, Hotel Lamoille is a single-story, log cabin-style, three-suite lodging space just blocks from the entrance to Lamoille Canyon.

Originally built in 1955, it has found new life in recent years.

Amanda Ahlin bought the hotel at the end of 2020 with her mother Melanie Arthur, who joined in on the project in June 2023.

“Now we run it together with our family,” Ahlin said.

Ahlin said recent renovations to the hotel did not make too many changes. “We did carpeting, paint, all-new furniture and that was it.” The living room has squishy leather couches. The dining area has its own TV setup.

This month, Ahlin opened the hotel as an Airbnb.

Most of the hotel’s business comes through word-of-mouth or phone calls, specifically by repeat clients, Ahlin said. “Airbnb does generate some business, but not as much as our clientele.”

Visitors stop by from both Elko County and from out of town, she explained. “We get Christmas parties here that they’re hosting next door. We get date nights, with lots of local people.”

Ahlin said that vendors also come through during local fairs. Hotel Lamoille hosts skiers and snowmobilers as well — and even weddings, many of which involve Elko County residents. The entire hotel is available for group event rental.

Each room in the hotel contains a coffee station, a mini-fridge, a microwave and a sleeper sofa. The largest individual room for rent contains two queen beds separated by a door. A back porch looks out on the Ruby Mountains.

“All in all, you can get about 14 people in here who rent the entire thing,” Ahlin said.
