Greece

Before the peak season, May should be the perfect time to visit Greece, especially the Greek Islands.

This means you’ll be able to explore the local areas without too many tourists wandering around or the weather being too warm.

With typical highs of 25C and almost no chance of rain, May has an average temperature of 22C.

Some of Greece’s most popular destinations include Corfu, Crete, Rhodes, Santorini, Zante, and Mykonos.

If you’re after a relaxing holiday away, Crete, Kefalonia and Corfu are your safest bet.

And we’ve even revealed a budget-friendly alternative to Corfu that’s hundreds cheaper and fans claim has ‘better beaches’.

Here are some of the best deals we’ve found on these more tranquil islands:

  • 7 nights self-catering at Alexis Pool Apartments in Sidari, Corfu – from £182pp
  • 7 nights self-catering at Akrogiali Studios Poros in Kefalonia – from £187pp
  • 7 nights room-only at Trabukos Beach Complex in Kavos, Corfu – from £202pp

Meanwhile, Mykonos and Zante are the places to be if you’re after a holiday filled with sun, sea, and parties.

Although the biggest parties usually run between June and August, most beach clubs open around the last week of April, so you should find plenty of clubs and bars to hit.

These are some of the best deals we’ve spotted in Mykonos and Zante:

  • 7 nights self-catering at Metaxa in Kalamaki, Zante – from £258pp
  • 7 nights self-catering at Macedonia in Kalamaki, Zante – from £260pp
  • 7 nights self-catering at La Caretta in Alikansas, Zante – from £277pp

Turkey

Turkey has often been described as a “perfect all-year-round destination”, so it’s no surprise it’s great to visit in May.

The country has also been in the top three “best-value destinations for Brits” for the last three years.

Antalya, Marmaris, and Bodrum are the most loved hotspots by Brits, and they usually offer some pretty cheap deals around that time of year.

Although we’ve also found Side to be a less-crowded spot that’s just as nice as the most popular resort towns.

All the destinations should see highs of 24C, with temperatures rarely below 20C.

Whichever resort you choose, they’re all around a four- to five-hour flight from the UK.

Turkey’s tourist season begins in May, so while there may be lines at the most popular locations, they will pale in comparison to the busy months of July and August.

These are some of the best deals we’ve found, departing in May:

  • 7 nights self-catering at Sun Apartments in Marmaris, Turkey – from £266pp
  • 7 nights self-catering at Sebnem Apartments in Marmaris, Turkey – from £277pp
  • 7 nights self-catering at Club Sun Smile Apartments in Marmaris, Turkey – from £300pp
  • 7 nights all-inclusive at Sun Star Resort in Antalya, Turkey – from £335pp
  • 7 nights all-inclusive at Senza Garden Holiday Club in Alanya, Turkey – from £275pp

We’ve also found all-inclusive beach holidays under £500pp next month, where temperatures reach 20C.

Alternatively, for somewhere closer to home, there are many staycations with hot tubs that won’t break the bank in Dorset, Norfolk and Lake District.
