Mount Fuji, Japan

Mount Fuji, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, faces the challenge of balancing its accessibility with the need for responsible tourism and environmental protection. To strike a balance, hikers will be charged ¥2,000 (approximately INR 1100) to access the Yoshida Trail above the Fifth Station, which is roughly halfway to the summit. In addition to the entry fee, a daily cap of 4,000 hikers will be imposed on the Yoshida Trail. This measure aims to reduce congestion, alleviate overcrowding on narrow paths, and improve overall safety for all climbers.

Plaza de España, Spain

Seville’s famed Plaza de España is known for its ornate architecture, but the destination is considering charging tourists visiting the Plaza de España to manage the high visitor volume. Mayor Jose Luis Sanz shared the plan, proposing closure of the plaza and introducing a fee for tourists to support its upkeep and security. The plaza, a popular cultural hub in Seville, hosts various events such as concerts and serves as a filming location. This is part of a broader trend in Europe to manage overcrowding at popular landmarks.
